Field Update (Bohol Quake 2013 Day 2-2)

Text and pictures from Liza Macalandag of the Bohol Chronicle’s Facebook

Finally crossed Abatan River to Maribojoc & Loon situation (and finish my heritage church-focused monitoring).

At the back, Abatan Bridge, Motorcycles ride small paddle boats for mobility.

With Sir Jun from DYRD-AM this time. Please note that these are quick drive-by photos lang, no way near representative of the full extent of damages. But from these photos, we can see that Maribojoc and Loon took a real hard beating. Loon’s death toll, in particular, is very heartbreaking.

People need food and water. Those who plan to pack and distribute relief bags, please include water. Some will need clothing soon. Evacuation areas tend to attract illnesses, so medicines.

There needs to be an immediate plan to address an alternative route for goods and people transport in and out of these towns. Bridges can’t be repaired in a month’s time.
